Retirement Teacher
There are a variety of retirement teacher jobs perfect for former educators who want to remain in the workforce but not as full-time teachers. If you've reached retirement age and are left with a blank slate in front of you, it's time to consider what you'd like to do with your skills, experience and time. The knowledge a retired teacher has can be very valuable in a variety of applications. In this article you will learn about some of the leading job choices for retired teachers.
Teachers make wonderful part-time consultants at the schools where they were employed. Many retired teachers continue to help out on a part-time or even a volunteer basis at the school where they worked. If this is not an option or does not appeal to you, consider becoming a tutor. Tutors help children of all ages get a better grasp of troublesome subjects. If there was a certain age group and/or subject you taught during your career this is where you may want to focus your attention as a tutor. You can be a private tutor or work for a tutoring company.
You can even choose to be an online tutor. These days there are companies who hire tutors to do their job via telephone, Internet and web conference. If you've got the right setup in your home office you can do your job right from there. Of course many seniors choose to work because of the socialization, so working at home may or may not be right for you. If you have special skills that you were not able to display during your teaching career (like painting, writing, woodworking, etc) now may be the perfect time to explore those skills and perhaps even teach others.
Your local employment office is a good start when searching for retirement teacher jobs. If you can't find anything that appeals to you there, check with schools in your area who may want part-time help. If you want to work but do not need to financially, consider the multitude of volunteer opportunities out there. No matter what cause is closest to your heart, it's likely there is a way you can devote your time to furthering it in some way. At the least, you could volunteer for story time or as a teacher's assistant if you want to help out in the classroom environment.
