Jobs Companies

There are all kinds of different jobs, companies and even organizations devoted to helping retired senior citizens succeed in the workforce. Today's seniors aren't staying home like they used to. With advances in medicine and a longer average life span, so-called seniors are doing everything from running marathons to working in challenging jobs. Of course not every retiree wants to work a job that is just as demanding as the one they just left. While they don't want to stay at home being bored all day they also don't want to toil from sunup to sundown. For them there are many great jobs that can provide extra income and a sense of fulfillment.

Retail jobs remain popular for seniors because of the flexible scheduling and pleasant work environment. Also popular are supermarkets, department stores and superstores of all kinds. There are so many different areas of stores like Wal-Mart and Target that seniors have plenty of choice. Often they are placed as greeters, who say hello to the customers when they enter and make sure they have a shopping cart and sale flyer. Greeters also put stickers on returns that are headed for the customer service desk.

Driving jobs are also very popular with seniors because the majority of the work is seated. If you are driving in the town you've lived in for many years you probably know the routes like the back of your hand. Many pharmacies need delivery drivers and hospitals need shuttle drivers. Food service jobs are also hot for retirees because like retail jobs, the hours and scheduling is quite flexible and there is little pressure. After years on the career fast track many retirees appreciate a more laid-back work environment. Whether you prefer cooking, housekeeping or working in a garden you can find the ideal job with some creative searching.

When it comes to jobs, companies and organizations for retirees the AARP must be mentioned. This acronym stands for the American Association of Retired Persons. They have a website and even a regular print publication filled with valuable information for people of retirement age. You can find out more about the issues that matter to you, like finances, employment, health, family issues and much more. There are even regular interviews with celebrities 50 and older.
